J.E. Dallas Zither Banjo
J.E. Dallas Zither Banjo
This is a remarkably well preserved J.E. Dallas 5-String Zither banjo. This banjo is in full working order and sounds fantastic. It shows some signs of use in terms of cosmetic wear but nothing that affects the playability whatsoever. It is rare to find this type of banjo in this good of playing condition.
J.E. Dallas was a high quality instrument maker who started in 1873. The exact year this banjo was made isn't known for certain but the banjo is stamped ''202 High Holborn Street,'' which indicates it was made between 1914 and 1926, as those are the years the company produced instruments at that facility.
This banjo has a unique slotted headstock with 6 tuners, as it was less expensive for makers to simply use 6-string guitar headstocks in their production at the time.
