1938 Selmer Balanced Action Tenor Saxophone
This 1938 Selmer Balanced Action tenor saxophone is quite a special horn. It's becoming increasingly rare to find beautiful old horns like this that have survived this long without some sort of major damage. This one is in excellent playing shape and feels great under the fingers. It really seems to 'open up' as you go above 'A' on the staff, where upper octave mechanism takes over. It's a beautiful horn that really is a joy to play.
This horn has been repadded with black roo pads relatively recently and everything is sealing as it should. Mechanically the horn is sound and hasn't had any damage or neck pull down. The silver plating is wearing through in a few places, as you might expect for a horn from the late 30's. This tenor also appears to have had the strap hook moved, though it is in a very comfortable position currently. This horn is a great player and ready to go out of the case.
This horn comes with a wooden hardshell case that has seen a good amount of use but still protects the saxophone well. One of the latches has lost a rivet, though it will still latch.
Please note, this saxophone is not supplied with a mouthpiece.
This saxophone, along with our entire collection of vintage horns and mouthpieces, is available for play test / inspection in shop.
