1935 Conn 10M Tenor Saxophone
1935 Conn 10M Tenor Saxophone
This is a Conn 10M tenor saxophone with serial number 270,xxx, dating to 1935, which makes it one of the earliest 10M saxophones. These early models have slightly different engraving to the later ‘Lady Face’ and ‘Naked Lady’ models but feature all of the free-blowing fatness that 10Ms are known for. This model features rolled tone holes, and a right hand G# trill key. It also has an Eb trill key, but this has been blocked off with a cork as is quite common because modern players don’t really use this feature.
This horn is in full working order and has been recently overhauled. It has a new set of pads that are sealing well and can whisper down into the low register. As a horn of more than 90 years old, it has a fair amount of lacquer wear and a few small dings. None of these are major and certainly do not affect the horn’s playability. This is a great example of a horn from this era and a real player.
This horn is free blowing and dynamic. It can produce a big fat sound and is also very capable of whispering a ballad. The action is light and quick and feels very good under the fingers.
This horn is supplied with a ProTec moulded case in full working order but does not come with a mouthpiece.
