1933 Selmer Cigar Cutter Tenor Saxophone - Played by Dave Liebman
This 1933 Selmer Cigar Cutter tenor saxophone, also known as a Selmer Super Series, is quite a special player. It has a 'liveliness' about it that makes it a joy to play. When Dave Liebman came to Manchester in 2015, he needed a horn for his gig at Band on the Wall with his Vein Trio, and the previous owner offered to let him choose one to use for the gig from his rather large collection of approximately 25 vintage horns. After trying quite a few, Dave chose to use this horn on the gig. If you watch the YouTube link below, you'll see the horn sitting on top of its case by Dave's right foot.
This horn is in full working order and plays great. It has black roo pads that have not seen much action since being fitted and they are sealing very well. Mechanically, this horn is super clean and feels great under the fingers. The action is quick and light and you can really get around on it, especially for an older horn.
Cosmetically, this horn is pretty tidy. The silver plating is starting to wear through in a few places but overall it looks great. This horn has very delicate and beautiful engraving.
This saxophone comes with a moulded hard case in full working order and a leather neck pouch.
