Adler Boehm System Open Holed Oboe

This is a rare example of a Boehm-system or open holed Oboe by Adler. After the introduction of the Boehm fingering system for flute in the mid 1800s, several musical instrument manufacturers dabbled with similar systems for other woodwind instruments. The system was widely adopted for the clarinet and led to the modern clarinet system we have today.

For Oboes, Guillaume Triebert created the “Nouveau Boehm” oboe, which used Boehms venting and keywork ideas along with a new bore design which retained consistency throughout the different registers. The keywork looks more like a modern clarinet that an Oboe featuring wider, open holes and rings round the keys.

The open-hole system never took off, although several manufacturers did continue making this style of Oboe up until the 1970s. They were frequently used in French Military bands.

This Adler Oboe  was made in Markneukirchen in Germany and is in good condition, with all pads and keywork functioning correctly. It is been tested to the best of our abilities and appears to be in full working order and fits a standard modern oboe reed.

It comes with a fabric bag.
