De Gregorio Cajon Darracajón Siboney 51.CAJ05
The Siboney cajón is the natural complement to the Kongo.

In the traditional Rumba groups, it covers the “quinto” part, that being the leading percussion role, with its high pitched sound, which artfully blends with the intricate interplay set by the Clave, Conga and Bass Cajón.

This instrument, shaped in a cut-pyramid fashion, doesn’t feature a snare system, and it is played holding it between the legs, as it is done traditionally for the bongo.

That doesn’t mean that it may not be used in non.conventional ways, for instance, within a modern multi-percussion set, placed on a stand, or it can even be played as a darbuka, due to its similar size and shape.
