De Gregorio Cajón Chanela - 51CAJ03 - Brown - FREE DVD
The type of wood used in Cajón-making varies a lot according to the area of origin. In South America the choice is endless, in North America, Maple is the most common, while in Europe, Birch and Beech are traditionally the drum woods. Luckily, Birch has the right qualities that suit the character of the Cajón; bright, rich in medium to high frequencies with a clear, distinctive tone.
The Chanela comes as a result of years of work, committed to the achievement of a Cajón with an extremely sensitive snare, with a powerful sound and easy in its maintenance. The double quantity of strings placed inside, compared to the normal standard, offers a kind of sound very close to a snare drum, but with a more dampened tone.
Tuning is ensured by adhesive tape, allowing maximum control against unwanted buzz, and a quite loose tension of the strings, thus improving their duration over a longer period of time. The most innovative aspect of this model though, is the possibility to totally remove the snare system, in a simple and effective way. Developing the concept behind the patented snare system of the Zambo model, DG created a detachable upper inner block, where the strings and the top screws rest. Since the bottom block is also removable, replacing a damaged string is now a simple operation, something that can be done in a few minutes with a simple screwdriver.
The side panels are manufactured from 12mm, 9-ply Poplar plywood, the back panel is 6mm Poplar, 3-ply and the front playing panel is 2.5mm, 5-ply Avio Birch plywood (super-thin plies used for aircraft modelism), delivering a high degree of flexibility and resilience.
The Cajón measures: 49cm x 29cm x 29cm.
Supplied with an English DVD tutor and instruction manual.
